On the 13th of April the danish organisation SILBA conducted an election observation mission (EOM) on the first round of the presidential election in Macedonia. The mission was short-term and therefore the report is based on the events on the election day only. The EOM was conducted in close cooperation with our Association for Progress, Education and Lobbying (PEL).
The EOM consisted of 31 Danish and Macedonian observers divided into 7 teams, which altogether visited 74 polling stations in Skopje. Each team consisted of both Danish and Macedonian observers.
Voting at most of the districts visited went in calm environment complying with democratic standards of free and fair elections. However, the impression of the election procedures varied substantially depending on the observing district.
It is the general impression that the opening and closing of polling stations went according to procedures. Minor irregularities were observed.
